Five things to check before you gather quotes.

This program is for qualifying owner-occupied homes within the City of Brantford. It does not automatically extend to Paris, St. George, Burford, or other County of Brant properties.

01You own and live in the Brantford property.
02Property taxes are paid in full when you apply.
03The home is not under a new construction warranty.
04The property has not exceeded the lifetime subsidy limit for the eligible installation.
05All eavestrough downspouts are disconnected from the City sewer system.

Do not start early.

Work completed before City approval is not eligible. Wait for the approved Commitment Letter, sign it, and return it before proceeding.

New sump pit, pump, and battery backup

For the sump category, the City describes a new sump pit and pump with battery backup connected to existing weeping tile or a new internal drainage system. Existing sump pump repair, maintenance, and replacement are not eligible.

How to apply

From first quote to reimbursement.

Check the address and owner requirements

The property must be inside the City of Brantford. The applicant must own and live in the home, have property taxes paid in full, and the property cannot be under a new construction warranty.

Confirm the work may qualify

Match the proposed work to an eligible category. Existing sump pump maintenance, repair, and replacement are not covered. The sump grant is for a new pit and pump with battery backup connected to weeping tile or a new internal drainage system.

Get a detailed, itemized quote

The quote must separate each eligible item and show materials and contractor labour. The City encourages homeowners to compare at least three quotes and check City licensing.

Apply online before work starts

Complete the City application and upload the itemized quote. Include the requested photos and a proposed drainage sketch when downspout work is involved.

Wait for the Commitment Letter

Do not authorize or begin grant-funded work until the City approves the application. Sign and return the Commitment Letter before proceeding.

Arrange permits, locates, inspections, and photos

Confirm permit and inspection requirements with the City. Keep clear before, during, and after photos. Utility locates are the homeowner's responsibility before work begins.

Finish the approved work and request payment

Complete the approved work within six months of the signed Commitment Letter. Submit paid invoices, receipts, required inspection results, and photo documentation to the City.
